The Shunammite Woman and Elisha
2 Kings 4:8-17
One day, Elisha traveled to Shunem. While he was there, he met a wealthy woman who urged him to come for a meal at her house.
From that time onwards, whenever Elisha traveled to Shunem, he would always stop by her house to eat. The wealthy woman said to her husband, “I know Elisha is a man of God. Let us make a small room on the roof and put a bed, table, and lamp for him. In this way, he can stay there when he stops by at our house.”
Later, Elisha happened to stop by at the house. He went up to his room and get some rest.
Elisha said to his servant, Gehazi, “This woman had gone through all the trouble for me. What can we do for her in return?”
Gehazi said, “Well, her husband is well advanced in age and they have no son.
After that, Elisha said, “Call her to me.”
The woman came and stood in the doorway. Elisha said, “Next year about this time you will have a son.”
The woman objected, “No, my lord! How can this be, O, man of God?”
Just as Elisha said, the woman became pregnant. At around that time in the following year, she gave birth to a son.
