David and the Threshing Floor

2 Samuel 24:18-25

The prophet Gad went to David and said, “Go up to the threshing floor of Araunah and build an altar to God.”

David and his men heeded the prophet and traveled to the threshing floor of Araunah.

When Araunah saw David and his men coming toward him, he bowed down and said, “Why has the king come?”

David replied, “I want to buy your threshing floor and build an altar to God so that the plague will be stopped.”

Araunah said to David, “Take it. It is yours. Here are the oxen and fire woods. You can use them for the burnt offering.”

David replied to Araunah, “No! I want to pay you for it. I will not offer God a sacrifice that costs me nothing.”

David bought the threshing floor from Araunah. After that, he built an altar and offered sacrifices to God. God answered David’s prayer and stopped the plague on the Israelites.
