Bricks with No Straw
Moses and Aaron went to meet Pharaoh together. They said to him, “God commands you to let his people go so that they may offer sacrifices to him in the dessert.”
Pharaoh said, “Who is this God that tells me to let the Israelites go.”
On that very day, Pharaoh commanded the slave drivers to stop giving straws to the Israelites. The israelites had to find straws in order to make bricks and meet the quota.
The Hebrews who were in charge of the Hebrew slaves went to Pharaoh and said, “Why did you oppress us this way? You didn’t provide us with straws and yet we have to make bricks. The wrong is with your own people.”
Pharaoh said, “You people are lazy! That is why you are asking me to let you go into the dessert to offer sacrifice to the Lord.”
They realized that they were in trouble so they went to Moses and said, “May God punish you for giving them an excuse to kill us.”
Moses said to God, “Why are all these happening? From the time I spoke to Pharaoh, you have not saved your people at all.”
